OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH MONEYMoney is a fact of life – we cannot run away from it, but should we make money our God? – the end all and be all. Well whenever I have discussions about money, the concluding view is that we cannot really have a good life without money. In fact, life is often limited by the amount of money we have.
Not convinced, well look at how the English language refers to your job – it is called your LIVElihood. Your job gives you money and thus gives you the means to live. Hence, Livelihood.

MONEY MOTHERSWhat did your mother tell you about money? My mother used to always tell me that money does not grow on trees. that may be true, although the paper that we use is a product from trees. Money cocmes from a number of sources: inheritance, gifts, earnings. Beg, steal, borrow, earn or win – these are the various sources. We talk of breadwinners – the people who earn money.

CASH COWSWhether we like it or not, we have to find that cash cow if we want a plentiful supply of money for the whole of our life. Never waste your thoughts on what you don’t have, but instead focus on what you have and how you can use that and multiply that. The first cash cow is your mind because it can continuously produce ideas and plans of action. Some people focus on getting more, but a more productive way would be to focus on getting better and being more of yourself. Your outlook is crucial to a more plentiful future. A future focused on growth and creativity (I will make my life even better) is certainly more positive and more productive. If you focus on not having enough, the focus is on lack and limitation which is only brings frustration, but thinking about growth and creativity puts you in the vein of a greater positivity and a greater can do and will do attitude. Exchange frustration for satisfaction with this approach. The best is yet to come!

STANDARD OF LIVINGUsually if we have money, we have a high standard of living because we can buy material comforts. Actually it is our standard of living that is more important than money and is so much more than material possessions. At the end of the day, a magnificent life is one that overflows with joy and fulfilment. Thus raise your standard of living by doing something that makes your world and the world in general a nicer place. There is always something you can do to improve your life and its quality. Sometimes we can be so right yet so wrong. This philosophy applies in the work place. In parts of Asia, there is the belief that the Boss is always right or more accurately, The Boss always thinks he is right!
  TAKE A LEAF OUT OF THE BOOKS OF LAW STUDENTS
Law students are taught that they have to respect the office of judge even if they think the judge is an ass. It will serve you well if you respect the office of boss, even if you think he is an ass. Life is not fair. Yes the boss should respect you, but often he or she does not, but if you don't respect the boss, all you will get is conflict and sometimes the boot. Therefore always try where possible to flow with your bosses' thinking.
CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME
People often believe that giving to charity means giving to some external body. That may be true but the greatest charity is forgiving and being kind to those around us, including the boss. We often think the boss has a better life than us: more money, more perks, more power. But always remember he usually has more responsibility and has to worry more. He may have work responsibilities that we don't know about or we cannot even imagine. So before you sound off to the boss, consider how you can help him/her.
